This I Believe
Teaching is the vehicle through which one can help the most valuable source of life on earth - children. I believe that society depends on the education of its children. A teacher has the daunting mission and incredible privilege to create a new generation of creative, insightful, and intelligent individuals. An education that not only maintains high academic standards, but also nurtures the whole child and instills honest values gives every student an opportunity to succeed. When compassion pours from teachers and pumps through a school, students are empowered to discover a life-long love of learning. This thirst for education is an instrument of positive change that cannot be replaced or overlooked. It is the world's greatest investment.

"Society depends on the education of its children." Emily, this is such a truthful statement. Each generation must be educated in order to learn from the past of others and to write their own future. We, as teachers, can form the next generation! I've never thought of it that way! We may be teaching a future surgeon, composer, president, ambassador, mother, any profession. It is up to us to provide them with the best possible education!! What we say or do may affect their future actions! When we receive our certification, we are given the opportunity of a lifetime!! We must NEVER forget that!
This statement about what you believe is defined as teaching sums up everything that a teacher should be and how a teacher should act. It shows the real meaning of teaching, and that is not just academics. It is about being able to shape the child as you say, and being able to help the child become the adult they want to be!
