As a teacher, I believe it is my responsibility to effectively educate and engage all of my students; to give them equal opportunities and chances to succeed in my classroom regardless of gender, race, religious beliefs, family situations/status or orientation. To have the most positive affect on my students, I believe it is essential to look at each individual and meet them at their level to help each child make gains and reach their potential academically, socially and emotionally. As a teacher, I need to convey the message that all children can experience success and that I care about them as individuals and as learners.
It is my hope that my students will gain a love and a thirst for lifelong learning, continually learning about themselves, others, the world around them and the resulting interrelationships. I believe that learning is a continuous, lifelong process that does not stop once you have a diploma, the first job, an established career, or reach retirement.
Instilling a sense of belonging, a positive attitude, a belief that everyone will experience success and a love of learning are the most essential truths to teaching.

I strongly agree that equality in the classroom should be one of foremost concerns of a teacher. On top of many other aspects, treating students similarily makes them all feel like they belong in the class. This feeling then gives them a higer motivation towards learning because they feel as though they are part of a larger collective and want to contribute to the greater good. Allienating students only makes them feel inferior thus hindering their contributions to the class, in homework or in discussion.
Elizabeth, I completely agree with you. It is so important to address each student's individual needs in order to allow them to experience their own feeling of success. When children know that they have worked to achieve something wonderful, I believe that they will be inspired to continue striving for success. It is the teacher's responsibilty to empower their students to attain this sense of success.
