This I Believe

I Believe that teachers learn as much from their students as the students do from them. Teachers have to be passionate about what they are teaching, or students are learning no more then they would by teaching themselves. Teachers should be mentors, confidents and friends, but still have to be a leader and adult. The bond between teachers and students is different then any other, and should be held to high esteem. Teachers are what shape the minds of our future, but the students decide what to do with what they learn.

I am intrigued by your last line "Teachers are what shape the minds of our future, but the students decide what to do with what they learn." I like how you gave the idea that teachers lay the foundation for what is expected to be learned but the power lies in the student to accept it or not.

I completley agree with the line "Teachers should be mentors, confidents and friends, but still have to be a leader and adult." I had many high school teachers who just wanted to be my friend. I did not learn as much from them as I did from my other teachers who were both helpful in a friendlike manor but were also strict adult leaders. My best teachers were the ones who wanted to get to know me as friends but also made sure I knew that they expected me to know that they were also my teacher and I needed to respect them as that as well.
